Welcome to Grand Manan

Rooted on Grand Manan Island, our family-run team brings premium Atlantic Canadian seafood to customers around the world with care, integrity, and pride.

For five generations, we’ve shown up for our people, our partners, and our island — doing things the right way, because that’s the only way.

An Island That Knows Its People

Early rises and honest work in a community shaped by the sea.

Off the southern coast of New Brunswick at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy…

Where the sea breathes cold and deep in the way that makes world-class seafood possible, sits the island of Grand Manan

Here, brass sunrise plays between berths as if it remembers every hand that has ever fished these shores. Gulls gather in great white spirals as boots hit the wharf before the sun fully clears the horizon.

On Grand Manan, reputation is built through presence.

From being there every day, in every season, as the boats come in and the air smells of brine, diesel, and stovetop coffee. It’s small enough that you know every boat by the sound of its engine, and a handshake still represents the kind of honesty you can’t manufacture.

Our island teaches you that you’re only as strong as the people beside you.

Crews who haul together through the dark. Neighbors who show up before you ask. Families whose names are carried through every season of the fishery.

Coastal landscape with a rocky cliffside, calm water reflecting the sky, and houses on the hillside surrounded by trees in the background.
Children walking on a narrow trail through a dense forest with tall evergreen trees on both sides.

Growing up here, you don’t always realize how rare that is, until you leave.

On an island, community isn’t a concept. It’s how things get done. When something needs fixing, the island steps forward together. When the fishing industry does well, the whole community feels it.

That belief sits at the center of our business: if we do well, our fishermen do well, our partners do well, our island does well.

This place doesn’t just influence our work. It defines how we do it.

Sustainability on
Grand Manan Island

We’re never asking for more of these waters than they can give. We know these depths and tides, how they work, how everything interacts, and what they need to stay healthy.

Our lobster fishery is MSC certified. That matters to us, not as a badge, but as a responsibility. Stewardship isn’t an abstract idea on an island. It’s personal. These waters feed our families, support our neighbors, and shape the future we’re passing down.

Quality Is a
Community Commitment

Quality on Grand Manan doesn’t belong to one company. It’s a shared standard.

It lives in the pride fishermen take in their catch, the care our employees bring to their work, and the relationships built across the wharf, the plant, and the community. When everyone is accountable to one another, quality becomes a way of life.

Heritage, Hard Work, and Honest Seafood

Five Generations of Showing Up

Benson Seafood started as a family doing the work, day after day, season after season.

For five generations, the Bensons have been present on Grand Manan: on the wharf, in the plant, and alongside the people who make this fishery possible. We know the boats. We know the families behind them. And we know that success here is shared.

As we’ve grown into new markets, that hasn’t changed. We still meet at the wharf and we still believe that if we grow, the people around us should grow too. A ‘rising tide lifts all boats’ isn’t a cliche here. It’s how our community lives and thrives at the edge of the sea.

Quality You Can Taste. Integrity You Can Trust.

Surrounded by the cold waters of the Bay of Fundy, Grand Manan gives us access to some of the best lobster in the world. But water alone doesn’t make great seafood.

Quality comes from people who care.

Our employees want to do good work, our team keeps improving, and our process respects both the product and the place it comes from. From depths to deck to processing to packing, we handle our seafood with the same care we bring to every relationship.

Benson is still built on the same ground it started on five generations ago: do right by your people, show up for your community, and let the quality of your work speak before you do.

Seafood You Can Stand Behind

Benson Seafood delivers premium Atlantic Canadian seafood with the consistency, care, and integrity buyers rely on. If you’re looking for quality you can trust, backed by people who stand behind what they harvest, we’d be happy to hear from you.
